Systemic Racism

Systemic racism did not escape the women’s suffrage movement and for the most part African American suffrage leaders have been written out of the history books. Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, leaders of the women's suffrage cause in the late 19th century, claimed equality and justice for all but their public speeches were often bigoted and their actions rendered black suffragists invisible. 2020 is the centennial of the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote; it's time to look back and fully understand and acknowledge that imperfect and complex journey. #VotesForWomen #19thAmendment
